On The Run For Slow Walked BBQ

Here in La La Land most Angelenos, usually refer to BBQ as DIY, grill-your-own meat. Everyone has their favorite hole-in-the-wall or super posh smoked-filled joint. But The BBQ King is not one of these places at all…not unless you have 6 hours free to smoke a collection of succulent, melt-in-your-mouth ribs, pulled pork, chicken, brisket…oh and the sausage, well don’t get me started. Rod Daniels and his brother Robert have been smokin ’”low and slow” for over 20 years. On the corner of Sunset and Figueroa, which was the original local, is where I actually first discovered Texas-style barbecue. There are a few different styles of BBQ in Texas, but the East Texas style is basically how you would describe The BBQ King. It’s slowly cooked to the point that it is literally “falling off the bone” —lip smacking, fall of the bone actually! These days you’ll find The BBQ King located on Vermont in South Central and we decided we better go on over and give Rod a visit.
