10 Foods You Shouldn't Refrigerate! EVER.

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

#1 Hard Liquor

OK. It's not "Food" per say...but let's start with it. Because the Buddha Jumps team considers it

and essential component to any meal or anything. So here is the deal. While some liquor is better served chilled, hard liquor shouldn’t be kept in the refrigerator. Doing so can hide some of the integral flavors of the liquor.

#2 Potatoes

Did you buy them in the refrigerated aisle? No you didn't and putting them in the fridge can actually negatively impact their flavor. The best method for storing potatoes is in a paper bag in your kitchen pantry. Plastic bag? NO BUENO, they can trap moisture, and speed up the decaying process.

#3 Bread

It's not going to keep it fresher or make it last longer. What it will do is dry the bread out at a fast rate. Bread will keep at room temperature for up to four days.

#4 Coffee

Nope...it just won't taste good. The condensation that collects can adversely affect the flavor of your go-juice. I know...I'm just a surprised as you are!

#5 Basil

I know, I know...I thought so too! Who would think to just throw it in the crisper to keep? As tempting as it is this actually will make it wilt much faster. Not to mention, it also absorbs the smells of any food that is stored around it.

#6 Olive Oil

Keep it in a dark and cool place, the refrigerator is too cold for it. Keeping it in the refrigerator will cause the oil to condense into a near-butter consistency.

#7 Melons

If you purchase your melons whole, they can be kept on the counter-top, in order to preserve that yummy flavor of theirs. There has even been research that has found that melons kept at room temperature help to keep those cancer-fighting antioxidants in place. Once the melon is cut, it can be refrigerated for 3-4 days.

#8 Onions

Just don't do it. They will rot, grow moldy and become soft. Onions are best kept in a dry and cool place, that is preferably dark, like a kitchen pantry.

#9 Avocados

When it comes to avocados, it can be a bit trickier when it comes to refrigeration. If the avocado is not ripe yet, you do not want to put it in the fridge. However, if it is ripe, they can be stored in the fridge. How can you tell if an avocado is ripe? Look for an avocado that is not too firm, but not too soft either, with a dark brown skin. Take a peek under the dry button-like stem on the end. If it is green, you have in your hands a ripe avocado, but if it’s brown, than it is going to be slimy and icky.

#10 Honey

Honey will keep indefinitely, as long as it is kept it sealed up tightly. If put in the refrigerator, it will begin to crystallize.
